Five Ways to Boost Employee Engagement

•Know them. Employers need to research their own workforces and understand what’s important to each individual employee. The book looks at using market research and surveys to understand workers better and offers 10 rules for engagement survey success.

•Grow them. The book aims to help organizations create cultures of ongoing learning so employees are challenged and grow professionally. Tips include creating a place where it’s safe to make mistakes and ensuring that growth opportunities fit with business goals.

•Inspire them. Leaders’ words, actions and priorities, clearly communicated, can inspire employees to perform better. Employers get advice on programs that care for employees’ needs outside of work, communication that keeps core messages in front of workers, and how to manage visibly and empathetically.

•Involve them. Managers and top brass get advice on four ways to involve employees: Keep them informed; gather their input; give them opportunities to collaborate; and allow them the freedom to “act in ways that improve operations, reduce costs and assist customers.”

•Reward them. Pay and benefits are rewards, and employees need to believe their pay and benefits are competitive and fair. Recognition and appreciation are rewards, too, and the book covers how to come up with rewards that truly motivate employees.

Reep the business rewards!
